I will go into detail: The Senior Pastor cut his message short to like 5 to 10 minutes because the first morning service took long and the announcements took long. But even more astonishing is no one made me feel welcomed. A mother was waiting for her teen boy while standing next to me which i informed i was alone, knew no one, shy, out of place, and with concern where to sit. I was left standing alone. I sat myself down next to the teen and his mother, and an 85 year old couple. The 85 yr old had apparently been smoking in an enclosed area because the reek of smoke was consuming me and the area around me. I asked them to not smoke on Sunday morning at least. It really was extremely polluting the air more than usual and needed oder remover. They got up and left the entire church! At least the air was breathable again. Maybe finally God can work in their heart to quit smoking or least be considerate. At the end of the service i was yelled at by the Senior Pastor for offending his flock! That is how he worded it. The flock he was referring to was the smoker and the teen. He defended the smokers and said they can sit any where they want smelling any way they do, and that i am welcome but must sit somewhere else. The teen was encouraged by me as i taught him the importance of memorizing the books of the New Testament and shared with him a story of how i memorized the books when i was 10. I helped him with many things and he asked me if i plan to join the church. His mother complained and the Senior Pastor yelled at me and said i offended the (jealous) mother. She wasn't teaching him anything church related like i was. The teen lacked desire and motivation to learn until i came into his life. He had no father and i would of been a good fit. The Senior Pastor was quick to tell me the teen was one of their best attendees and that i made a mistake to bother him with my faith and servitude. I strongly DO NOT advise anyone to go to this church unless you want to feel silenced and controlled. My spirit of love and giving and caring was crushed and quenched dry by the arrogant and proud Senior Pastor Dr. Ayers. I think that's his name. Its time for the baptist committee to know what is going on with this Pastor and correct him or remove him. This church is in a prime spot and deserves to be non denominational. It needs reform in order to grow and expand. I even volunteered to cook at their upcoming 10th annual bbq fund raiser on April 7 after hearing them announce they needed young people and middle aged people to join the church and be involved because the older crowd is getting too week health wise. It was my first day there and i wanted to join and make a difference. I asked if they had a food pantry. The answer was no. But then during announcements i heard them say the church has a huge garden right on the church campus that will harvest many crops. Plenty of parking and enough land to expand the sanctuary but there are no members! Well i say to you there was just a small gathering in a very huge location. I think it is the attitude and lack of respect for each other and how to open up as a church of diversity that is hindering and holding them down. Way too old fashioned and not a true baptist church feeling.

  • When my husband and I first visited here, we both felt that we had arrived "home." The people were super friendly and we were even invited to stay for a special luncheon for the choir members. When we came back a few Sunday's later with our older teen boys, we were given the same type of warm welcome. After attending Sunday School, we went to the worship service. When the pastor offered an invitation for anyone who wished to join the church to come forward, our boys indicated that they wanted to join. They, too, felt at home.

After joining, we've seen just how active in this community, as well as in national and international missions, the church is. One of the newer ministries that is helping the community is the farm. McGill is allowing acreage that was otherwise not being utilized to be run as a farm with the local YMCA. The produce grown is all donated for local hunger needs.

McGill allows its facilities to be used by many other non-profit organizations and by a Jewish congregation, as well. There is also a daycare facility in an adjacent building on the property.

With all that McGill does for the community, and the feeling of "family" that members have for one another, it's no wonder that it continues to grow and have such a wonderful reputation.
