  Do not use this company! I'm one of those people that usually don't listen to reviews but trust me on this one! They are not ethical at all and lie to their customers which is ironic since a good shepherd is a term that comes from the Bible and I'm pretty sure the Bible says lying is wrong especially when you just lost a pet you love!

  Incredibly compassionate help during an awful time. The folks I dealt with treated Persephone like she was one of their own. They even made a clay paw print which meant so much to my son. 10/10

  UPDATE TO MY ORIGINAL POST from July 2016....
  
  DO NOT use this service if you LOVE your animal. My horse passed away in July 2016. The Good Shepherd Concord offers horse pick up and cremation services. I called in desperate need as I had just lost my best friend and they refused to help. They told me they just didn't have an available truck and other Vet picks up were already lined up - they simply said - Sorry for the inconvenience! WHAT? Inconvenience? They told me they could have helped if my horse had passed on a weekday. REALLY? I’m sorry I could not allow my horse to suffer more till the following Monday. He was my best friend of 27 years.
  
  Well - I just received word (its been 6 mos. since my horses death) from a past employee who left there for unethical practices and sexist issues that they in fact VERY MUCH COULD HAVE PICKED UP MY HORSE that day. The girl I spoke to was told TO LIE to me or lose her job. She was told this by Scott Swafford, V.P. of the Concord location.
  
  I am so appalled because of what he and this company put me through that day, that weekend and worse, what happened to my horse. Having not only to deal with my loss but to have to figure out a way to take care of my horse in the dignified way. I had always planned to have him picked up and cremated.
  
  I am angry - I am hurt and I would highly recommend avoiding this place at all costs.... They are unethical, don’t care as they claim to – and should no doubt pay for the emotional distress they put me through – and god only knows how many others.
  
  They have other poor reviews and should definitely be looked at for this – if you advertise you pick up large animals (i.e., horses) then you should.
  
  MY INITIAL REVIEW:
  Horrible. I wouldn't even give one star if I didn't have to. I had to unexpectedly put down my best friend of 27 years on Saturday. I called and left a detailed voicemail for them that day since they are NOT open on weekends. I was referred by my Vet who said they would take good care of my boy.
  
  When I called 8am this morning a very unsympathetic person said, "sorry, we're booked today" and we won't pick up tomorrow - too late. My Vet has used them since 2001 and was livid with this response and said he'd never heard this before from them. My Vet even called himself and said this situation and response was ludicrous and unacceptable. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. They caused me more stress in an already very stressful situation - oh and I'm sorry that I couldn't MAKE A PRIOR APPT DURING THE WEEK WHEN YOU ALL WORK because guess what? We don't always know when a decision like this must be made. And - I'm sorry I opted to not keep my horse alive and in extreme pain JUST SO THAT you all would take care of him. I am beside myself with loss and anger towards Good Shepherd. Your apology back saying - SO SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE. Seriously? Who are you people?

  right now i'm having reservations about good shepard my dog passed away a week ago and still havent heard anything. but they were prompt on picking him up on Monday. so i'm surprised it has taken this long we have used them before it was always a matter of a couple days. i guess i'll have to be the one to call them. and i dont understand why i can't go to there facilty for pick up rathaer than all the way back to huntersville. there like 6 miles from my res.
  i went and picked up Kodybear today and they where very nice and had kody waiting. they had missed calling me last week to update on status but no harm no fould all is good and straightened out thank good shepard for quick response

  Good Shepherd Pet Services was wonderful! I recommend them to anyone. This is the first time I used them and they did everything they said they would do. The staff was very friendly, sympathetic and thorough which is needed when you are going through such an emotional time. I dropped my pet off one day and he was returned to me the very next day. Unlike the place in Huntersville that my vet used last year when another one of my pets died, & it took a full two weeks for my pet to be returned to me. If you decide to have your pet cremated this is definitely the place you want to go for service.
